As an Olympus Global Pro and with over 30 years experience as a professional photographer, r Mike Inkley works primarily in the field of motorsport photography. Covering F1, Touring Cars, Moto GP, etc. His images have been used by most of the leading TV channels and UK national papers. Mike is currently enjoying the role of team photographer and social media manager for this years British Touring Car Champions!!

One of his favourite images is not his most dynamic, but was certainly the hardest to shoot. Last year he was in Glencoe on the snow fields doing some landscape work when he spotted a small group of wild red deer does in one of the valleys and decided to trek after and see if he could get a shot of them. After over an hour of hard climbing and skirting around through the trees he managed to catch them on a bracken ridge line, with ideal light and the snow fields of the mountains behind. His E-M1 and M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm F2.8 PRO lens really delivered the goods

life beyond sight loss

life beyond sight loss

About the talk

Chris Nowell Photography

After completing tours in the British Army of Northern Ireland Iraq and Afghanistan. It was in Afghanistan where I lost the majority of my eyesight after only three weeks in the country. A rocket hit the wall I was leaning against resulting in me having a fractured skull memory loss and neurological memory loss.

With the help of Blind Veterans UK and my family support I completed with a year also rehabilitation. At which point I picked up a Camera for the first time for a way of escapism. Photography or specifically landscape photography give me something to look forward to. More specifically gave me a plan and how to organise again.

Living on the border of the Peak District National Park I am allowed those perfect mornings for landscape photography. That’s how Photography became my escapism as I continue to grow for the future.

I also volunteer annually with Blind Veterans uk at the centre in North Wales Llandudno. Here myself and one other member help members learn new skills and refresh some old skills now in the digital world.

With several long term projects on the go, he came largely to the notice of the general public by shooting the effects of working with Covid-19 upon theatre staff in the hospital where he also works.
